    1971 JEEP WAGONEER OIL FILTER

    Hi All,

Need to change the Oil in my 71 Wagoneer with 360 V8 & 4sp T18 manual.

Can anyone recommend the filter they are using and possibly a part#?

P.S. Picked up a Rhino Grille, Pie Pans and Headlight Assy this weekend!

    THX in Advance!

I'm using the NAPA Gold 1258 on my Buick 350's. It's the same filter for a 360. The're a decent filter. They used to have an issue with the drain back valves but I've never had an issue with them.

If you buy a Napa 1258 or Wix 51258, blow air into the filter through the threaded hole in the center. It should seal and no air should pass. A lot of them are defective.

Has anyone had this issue for recently? I've yet to have a bad one, and I run them on all of my Jeeps. I've been using them for three years or so now.

I have heard that the DELCO filters have bad/weak bypass valves though. FYI Delco filters are no longer made by Delco. The issue started up after they started getting re -labeled.

I've been using Baldwin B9 filters since the Napa filters sometimes have the faulty drain back valve. So far they seem fine. It's my understanding Baldwin filters have a good reputation.

I have not bought one in two or three years. They may have fixed the problem. I hope they have; I like Wix and Napa filters aside from that one. Sometimes I'd get a good one and sometimes I wouldn't. It was kind of spotty. May be a regional thing too if they have different manufacturing plants.

Several different manufacturers make filters for AC Delco. The PF-24 that our engines use is made by Champion Labs, who also makes the STP S25 (completely identical filter), K&N, and numerous others. They're not a fancy filter, but they do the job reliably. The Purolator L30005 is always my first choice, but they're getting hard to find.

Baldwin B9 for the tall one or B39 for the short one.
ACDelco PF24 is my second choice.
The NAPA/Wix filter is not as good as it used to be. The anti drain back valve doesn't work as well any more.

                      I stopped using Napa/Wix filters.
Even on our '09 Charger the filters are a crapshoot.
Every one I've bought are defective, if not immediately soon afterwards the engines get noisy on startup.
