Only thing left to come out is the fuel tank, trans/transfer case.

Had a lot of loose paint and undercoating on the frame. Scraped and sanded it then wiped it down with alcohol, used the recommended metal prep next. Washed the prep off after it reacted for thirty minutes and waited for it to dry. Only did the passenger side, hope to finished the driver side Saturday.

Two coats of POR 15,stuff lays down very smooth, used foam brush. It is not perfect but should slow down the rust. Going to top coat it with something, but not sure with what. Any suggestions?

So I guess I'am going to do a frame off, Why not, Right? Pulled the brake lines, fuel lines and got the fuel tank and trans/transfer case out the way. I like the POR 15. I was able to put two coats on the frame, hitch and battery tray with just one quart. Will sand with 320 and top coat it at some point.

Lol! Sounds like me last year. I wasn't intending on stripping the rig down to the frame but since you're already into it that far, why stop now, right? Good job!

Rain, rain, and more rain. Tropical Storm Cindy is dumping lots of rain on us for a few days so the frame top coat is on hold for now. Did pick out a top coat for the frame from NAPA. A friend of mine used it and liked the results. It is kind of what you would see from the factory, which is what I wanted.

Cut out some rust on the drivers side cowl. A little more on this side than the other. Pushing forward and making progress!

I keep forgetting you're in Mandeville. I'm over in BR. We'll have to swap notes some time!

And yes, Cindy is making life pretty miserable. It's raining enough to make it unbearable outside but not so much that I can take any comfort in calling it a day and NOT working on the truck...

If all goes well, we can toast to accidental successes.

I'm convinced I'm just too dumb to know that I can't restore this old truck...

If I can help in any way,let me know. Only thing is I'am learning as I go so not really an expert on any of this.

Ha, I get that. I'm definitely doing the learn as I go thing. I just keep reading the other build threads around here and try and do things as close to what I see others doing successfully. It's been working pretty well so far!

Do you know Tod Harris of the NO FSJ group yet? He's pretty active on the Facebook group, I think he comes around here some, don't know his handle though. Definitely get in touch with him about meet ups and build weekends. He's a super nice guy, helped me out more than once in a huge way.

Not on facebook, but I did talk to Tod on the phone just this week. Super nice guy! His handle here is mdcptman, might try and make the next build/trail ride thing they do up north of where I live.

Ah, cool! Glad you e already been acquainted. How far north of Mandeville? I grew up in Covington Country Club (which, despite its postal code is really in Mandeville), my parents still live in the same house they bought in '83 and now my sister and her family live over off 15th in Covington. Beautiful area. My girlfriend and I have talked many times about relocating there to start a family and put down some roots!

I'am not sure, can't remember if he said Folsom or somewhere in Tangi. I'am in Heritage Heights right at Hwy. 59 & I-12. Not far from your old stomping grounds.
