I’m wanting to install the older style stainless body trim (I think pre 1976 w/larger trim on top and narrow trim on bottom). My limited had the large wood vinyl and I guess the PO plugged all the holes. I’m really hesitant to start drilling holes for the plastic and metal mounting clips. Anyone tried 3m moulding tape or strait adhesive? I would need to fill the inside of the trim with some type of median for the adhesive to bond to the trim. I’m sure someone has opted for the modern method, right?

I did use the " modern method" on some 1969 charger emblems
the large script CHARGER names on the side
behind the little quarter glass
the emblems had posts
and I grinded/ground them off
filled the hollow emblems in with jb weld
then cut 3M 2 sided black foam tape in the shape of the emblem
and stuck them on
it worked great for me.
body filler may be lighter than jb weld ?????
I dont blame you on not wanting to drill.
each hole is a potential problem.

I get it, who wants to drill a hole in a perfectly good panel. The problem I see is trying to come up with a system to keep the trim in place that was not designed to be glued on. You could possibly make a block that you could glue in place on the stainless trim every few inches. The correct clips would be the easiest way to go, and the trim fits tight on the body. Good luck.1978 Wagoneer

I'd use the standard clips modified as Tony mentioned. They'll come in boxes of 100ct or a gross. Run a few/bunch side-by-side into the trim, leave a space, add more groups as needed... then use the trim tape attached to the blocks of clips to stick onto the wag. You'll retain the removability of the trim.joe

(then use the trim tape attached to the blocks of clips to stick onto the wag)
This won't look correct, the trim will sit proud of the body the thickness of the tape.1978 Wagoneer

I’ve got some time so I’ll try the moulding tape and epoxied clip options. I’m jumping ahead some here. I still need to reinstall my interior and get the truck painted. I just like having the parts/materials on hand to keep whatever momentum I have, going. Thanks for the ideas.1979 Wagoneer Limited

You could just make your own trim out of duct tape!
