my first fsj

hi all, last week i flew to denver and purchased my first fsj and officially joined the club. its a 78 honcho. my journey took about 1300 miles to get back to cleveland. i made the trip home in 33 hours and that includes a 8 hour nap lol. the jeep ran very very strong, averaging the needle on 75 mph. she felt in control and safe traveling at those higher speeds and i was tempted to smash the pedal to see how much more power she had left. then my brain kicked in and said no lol. the 360 was guzzling gas, about as fast as i drink beer. getting 7.5 mpg. the jeep does have 33s and a 4in lift. so im not sure what my around town mpg will be. the previous owner put a lot of time and money under the hood and body and then decided to sell to me. now i get to finish this beast. wish me luck and i will keep ya updated!

If you can't make it better why waste your time. No use repeating the orignal mistakes. I'm to old to push it that's why.

Welcome from Alexander, AR. 1300 miles, wow! I'm trying to make up my mind to drive 300. Don't think I'll risk it. Not to fond of sitting on the side of the road. Though a road trip does sound fun.

Mine only has two rust spots also just on the bed! I wonder if there in the same place as yours. One is on the left and goes from where the bed meets the cab back to the rear bumper, and from bottom of the thriftside in to the trucks centerline. The rust spot on the right is a mirror image. :P

just joshin! Nice looking rig and glad you joined us!

Sharp truck. At 7.5 mpg, we'll be hearing from you again. Ideally should be 12 minimum on the highway.

Go to "user CP" post you stuff in your sig block.

Welcome from "D*mnYankee land"

I'd be one happy camper if mine would do 130 miles.. I usually can manage 13 with a couple pit stops.

Trever,
it's very likely/possible that the PO did not change the speedo gear when they installed the 33" tires. If so, your 75 MPH may have actually been closer to 83-85 MPH and your mileage may be closer to 10-11 MPG.

Get a GPS in there and see how the GPS compares to your speedo.

Enjoy the new FSJ!
