J-truck info

I am having to do a 10 minute lecture on whatever I want and chose to do it on the J truck. I was wanting to copy the facts and figures but don't know how to copy and paste them to my thumb drive. I would also like to know what years the 2wd was available? I am looking at talking about the years produced, drivetrains, trim packages. Can someone list the trim packages for me, like the Honcho, Pioneer, and others and the years available for each. I know I am asking alot. I appreciate the help.

Use indeed first the great forum facts and figure section http://www.ifsja.org/tech/figures/index.html and wikipedia
The 2WDs trucks were suppressed during the 68 model year

for the packages there was first the "custom cab" option in the 60s and the beginning of the 70s, and then the packages pioneer, custom, honcho, golden eagle, 10-4, snow boss, laredo, sportside, sportside honcho, pioneer again
I don't know the years for all of them . You'll find also already some posts on the trim packages in the forum

Stepside, townside, standard cab, custon cab.

5 GVW's at one point: 5000, 6000, 7000, 8000, and 8600 dually. I think I heard of a 4000 GVW at one time....

Up to 1974:
Any J-2____ is going to be 120" wheelbase.

J-3___ is 126" wb.

J-4___ is 132' wb

Naturally, there were some custom built extended wb models offered throughout production.

On some models between 65 and 74 the J-____ on the side would tell you the GVW of the truck, but the best way is to look at the body plate inside the drivers door opening.

2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive were offered and an independant or solid front axle was optional or both untill 1965. An overdrive was offered on 3spd collumn shift 2 wheel drives for awhile in that same time period.

There may be a mistake or two in there, and I'm missing some early info. Jeep trucks never had a badge on the fender denoting weight rating (besides the J10 though). The J20 doesn't count as it could be had in three GVW's.

I didn't feel like talking about IFS. It was available from 63-65. Not sure which GVW's. I'm assuming the lighter duty ones. 4,000-5,600lb GVW are all the same truck. Different GVW's to avoid different state laws from what I've read.

Thanks Kaiserman, for this great summary
Concerning IFS and according to an old kaiser data book : the IFS was available as an option only for the J200s and J300s 2WD, and was no more available for J2000s and J3000s. The standard 2WD front suspension was actually a "2WD tubular reverse elliott", not the IFS. The IFS was not available evan as an option for the DRW rigs (scan available if someone is interested )

That's mostly correct except for the IFS 2WD only part. The early J-200/300 had a 4WD IFS D44 option and the J-100's (Wags) had a 4WD IFS D27 option. If in doubt maybe Ristow will send you a pic he owns 2 of them.

Yes i should have write : "the IFS was available as an option only for the J200S and J300s 2WD and 4WD"
Of course the IFS was also available for the 4WD rigs, thanks to point this out
The diffrence between the J100 2WD and the J200,J300 2WD is that the IFS was the standard suspension and not an option for the J100 2WD
For the 4WD rigs, IFS was an option in both case
Pics are always welcome

Kaiser bought Willys-Overland in 1953 and changed the name to Willys Jeep Corp. It was under that name Kaiser developed the J-Series released in 1962. They changed the name again in 1963 to Kaiser Jeep Corp. AMC bought Kaiser out in 1970. Chryco bought AMC in Aug 1987.

I'm betting Speech class. In college I opted for Speech over Sociology as an elective. To kill 10 minutes I sharpened a chainsaw w/o any goofy homeowner attachments/guides. G'luck. answering after speech questions will prolly last longer than the presentation.

Do you mean sportside, thriftside ? : the thriftside ran from '63 to IIRC '75, and the sportside from '80 to '83 (model years)
Only available for the short wheelbase trucks, except for the earlier gladiators. option not available for the duallys.
