tempted to go with a first gen dash in the '83.

the dash in this '71 is real nice. contemplating a retro fit to my Cherokee. now's the time to do it.

Just remember, the sooner you start driving it, the sooner it starts rusting!

Leave it in your garage and keep working on it.

Not as cool as the earlier ones, but close....

All ya'd have to do is trim the plastic down to the plate size for the Gen 1...never thought of that, will have to put the gen1 and gen2 extras I have front to front and see if its possible. Not that..the gauges in the Gen2 are worth anything besides entertainment..better off just making a custom panel with some classic gauges in it.

Ristow: do it. The bolt holes are basically the same. The column hole will have to be enlarged. The pedal mounting bracket as well..but you could 'cheat' and graft the drivers end from the gen1 bracket to the firewall end of the later style..I almost did this with mine in reverse because the later style is 2x as heavy duty as the gen1 pedal bracket. Realized I couldn't weld at the time.

You sure you don't have that in reverse?

My brackets in the 83 and 86 are made from pop cans compared to the ones in the 63 and 71. You could kill someone with those things.

The Gen2 later 70s era ones are burly. The 60s ones are much thinner. I don't know what they did in the 80s :/ I've never cut up anything that came with a 727 in it

i'm going to pull the dash out of the '71. will look into making all the electrics work. that's the hang up,mainly the time involved. bolting it up should be pretty straight forward. i'd maybe use the column out of the '71 as well.
