    Vacuum disconnect dana 44

Is it possible to use a standard 44 driver side axle in a disco 44? I guess specifically, is the normal inner seal machined area in there like an 80 model? I know you can do thus with an xj dana 30 axle, i just don't remember hearing of anyone doing this.

My understanding is that the seal isnt the same and that the oil will leak out the Drivers side.

The housing is completely different on that side, with no provision for that kind of seal; the short-side axle is VERY thick (like 1.75"), and seals at the outer end of the tube.

Your best bet would be to find another non-disconnect axle with the right gearing, or just lock the disconnect in the engaged position.
