First Christmas Tree with the Wagoneer

Yesterday, we took the Wagoneer on short ride over Roan Mountain to Elk Park, NC to Elk River Evergreens to choose & cut a tree. Between now & Christmas, taking into account personal & business travel, it was either now or the 2nd week of December to get over there.

They have a beautiful place, with thousands of trees to choose from, along with hot chocolate, popcorn, and a gift shop. This is the 4th year we have selected our tree there.

The Wagoneer was a hit with many people there taking pictures of it & with it, with quite a few references made to the Griswold Family Christmas!

What a great picture. It is that time of year.
Your post reminded me of a time long ago driving my 69 wag with two very big tree's on top to my first wife's bank. She was the manager and we were putting one in the lobby after hours and taking one home for us. My best friend Bill (owner of the build I have going) was with us on the trip. We pulled up to a red light and next to us stops a ford escort with a loud muffler and souped up motor. He was reving his motor and when the light turned green I nailed it. So did he. Neck and neck motors screaming my X model pulled ahead and we pretty much dusted the escort in half a block.
We pulled into the bank parking lot and got out and realized we just beat the pants of a loud souped up car with two of the biggest darn trees on top. All three of us laughed so hard. In the heat of the moment we forgot about them being up there.
It was classic. We still joke about it.
Great picture you posted. Wagoneers of any vintage make for great memories.

      Nice pic.

Many years ago the wife and I would get our USFS permit and go out to find the "perfect" Noble Fir. One year the ex asked us to get her a tree as well. We found two absolute beauties and had them tied on top when we came by a recently slash burned clear cut. Here was about a 6 foot fir that had been singed and killed by the burn....not needle one on it. Told the wife, here's the ex's tree, going to have some fun with it.
Cut it and tied on top of the other two...did we ever get some looks over that. Buried her tree in the shop and stood the "worse than Charlie Brown" on the wall. She showed up to get it and wouldn't believe it was her's. Liked to tear the store apart looking for the good one. Finally dug it out, and she took the dead one and put it up in the front yard, with lights, and the good one in the house.

Wife since passed on, and we are back together over the last 6 months and still get a chuckle out of that tree.
