badaboom - oil pump cover gasket.

    hey boomer,
i finished the oil pump cover gasket replacement tonight. no big thing. the only problem i had was scraping the old gasket from the cover. i hope in your case that the gasket isn't stuck to the timing chain cover. mine wasn't...it was stuck to the to the oil pump cover. anyway, getting the old gasket off was a pain. it was as brittle as a dried leaf. further, what i couldn't scrape off, i had to remove with a brass wire wheel on my air drill.
don't forget about priming the gear cavity with petroleum jelly sparingly. you will also discover that the gasket will not stay in place while you are trying to mate both surfaces. so, stick two of the seven bolts thought the cover and gasket while you mate it back to the timing chain cover.
everything worked fine. i let the truck warm up and get hot for about 25 minutes. NO LEAKS. not only that, i noticed that my oil pressure is better than i have ever seen it. when hot at idle, it used to sit at about 20 psi. now, it's at about 30 to 35 psi. at start up, it would only go to about 28 psi. now at start up, the oil pressure goes to nearly 40 psi. i don't know if it's due to the new gasket or not. it may be just a fluke...but, i'll take it.

Thanks for the update on the gasket replacement.
Glad to hear it appears your OIL psi appears to be in a better range.
I will have to try and let you know if I notice an improvement as well concerning OIL psi.
Maybe we will find a trend here, will see.
My oil pressure currently in my rig is pretty good
    I am usually @ 60 psi startup.

What/how did you torque for the bolts?

    Thanks for the pointers........

well, since they need to be torqued at about 7 lbs and my torque wrench doesn't go below 10 lbs, i torqued them at 10 pounds.
