83 J-10 Deep transmission Pan/Crossmember?
I think I am going to have to get a deep aluminum transmission pan. Who out there has one and did you have any issues with the crossmember? Are you able to get a socket wrench between the pan and crossmember? Do you have to move the crossmember?

Heavy Metal, what brand did you get? Where you able to get a socket wrench between them?

Mine is a JEGS brand but the Summit brand one is just the same. It came with hex bolts. No problems getting at them with a ratchet and extension. No moving the crossmember was needed either.

It's interesting that the crossmember in a '79 with a TH400 is a non-issue. I've heard there are crossmember issues for the '80s FSJ's with the TF727 that make a deeper aftermarket pan unworkable. Personally, I'd guesstimate that I have maybe a 1/2" or so clearance between my stock trans pan and the crossmember. Do I have my facts straight?

So does my 83 j-10 have an issue or not? Do you all have a early 80's FSJ with out a crossmember issue?

I haven't done swapped pans yet on my J20.
Here's a thread that may help.

i installed the TCI pan with the cross member out first. but in the last few days i had to pull the pan. the tci pan uses allen cap bolts so no way to get to them without drilling a few new holes in the cross member. but if you take the three tranny mount bolts out and jack the tranny up. then take three out of the four cross member bolts out leaving the lower one to the rear/ loose/ you can tap the cross member down and out of the way to get to the bolts.i looked at the j10 sitting here and looks the same as my 80 cherokee. hope this helps.
