TH400 deep pan clearance

I'm looking to buy a deep pan for my th400 for the '77 Chief. Clearance at the front corner of the pan looks a bit tight with the y pipe.

I've got maybe 4 inches of clearance there. Ideally I'd like to get a cast aluminum finned pan which are 3-5/8" deep. The chrome steel deep ones are only about 3" but not as nice.

Just wondering if moving the pan and fluid that much closer to the y pipe would be doing more harm than good? Has anyone installed a deep pan?
