I can take a picture of my stock tow hitch so you can see how they attached one the factory

Bolted to the frame on either side
I think the horizontal bolt is for the hitch and the vertical one is for the spare tire

That's a wagon hitch, J-truck frames are wider at the rear. I have one on my J20 not sure when I can get pics though.

I got a rusty one from a parts J10, welded a new receiver tube on and had it powdercoated.

J-truck specific
Draw-tite 41010
U-haul also had them.
Probably out of production since late 80's.
I bought one for $50 back then.

You would have to buy that hitch from me since that is the picture I posted about 10 years ago when I found out U-haul still sold them. After I posted on IFSJA that U-haul had them they sold out in about three hours. Glad to see that hitch picture is useful as a reference. Not to make you sick or anything but I still have that hitch and it has never been mounted. Unfortunately for the rest of the world that hitch is slated to go on my J10 project truck.

As far as I know and was told, based on your posting, I bought the last U-Haul hitch in inventory.
It was shipped from someplace in New England and took forever to get here.
It is currently installed on my J20.

Zack from Z&M Jeeps has the pattern and builds J Truck hitches on order.

Yeah, the hitch is nothing special. Any good welding shop should be able to make one. It is probably more of a liability thing that is the problem.

I made two that are very much like the one shown in post no. 7. As I recall I used a section of rectangular tubing which I cut in half lengthwise to create the two side brackets. I also used a piece of angle steel to accommodate the change in angle of the mounting flange. It all worked out well. If you send me your email I would be happy to send pictures of it as well as the fixture and dimensions I used to create it. I don't know how to post pictures.
