Here is my best guess at what i have spent so far....... This was a sobering experience to add up maybe i should just erase all this and put what my wife thinks i have spent.....hmmm. Actually to be honest i regret that i even responded to this this post..... because i had been living in denial in a state of ignorant bliss and had no idea that i had spent this much over the past two years my guess was around 14K, Only I and those who have spent a lot of time working on their old FSJ will apreciate what she really is. I have had a few people stop me at the grocery store and tell me they would give me $2,500 for her if i wanted to sell...... The Wagoneer is my daily driver and i keep telling myself she will last forever and i wouldn't trade it for a brand new one that gives me a sense of comfort and hey i only pay $1.50 a gallon running on CNG so if i drive it for another 20 Years i will make up my expenses on fuel savings right?? guys............right? Its a good thing i wasn't paying someone else to do most of this labor or else i could have added another 500 hours of labor onto this price tag.

I got my '90 for 1K and drove it home
I had originally planned on keeping a very detailed spreadsheet of ALL the expenses - it didn't take me long at all to decide that was a bad idea I intentionally don't keep track, now.

I've done lots of little things that add up, but the only big expense so far has been tires (31" Goodyear Wrangler ATs), new radiator, and new battery. That will change in the near future, though...

6K for the Chief incl. shipping and tax to Austria, 1.5 K for small parts and body parts, 3K for bodyshop and 5K planned for mechanical work with a lot of service parts (like all tie rods, ball joints, new rubbers for springs and body, and so on), the last things will be: tires for 0,6K, exhaust 0,5K and carpet cargo area with about 0,3K

just empty pockets are correct

Guess I should ask - Which Jeep ?

1986 Grand Wagoner:

Purchase Price: $ 3000 + taxes, tags etc .... did I mention it has only 58,000 miles for an 1986

New 2 bbl $ 258 - just to make more dependable
Fuel Pickup / Sending Unit and gasket - $ 78.00

Team Grand Wagoner - $ less than 800 - new fuel tank skid plate, all hoses, straps, vent check valves

POR 15 + Thinner less than $ 100

Previous Purchase Edlebrock RPM Airgap and 500 cfm carb - took off and 87 before parting it out

I cannot say

I am sure that my wife will somehow see this post, even tho she has no Idea that I visit here.

Her CJ was over $10K in parts collection and initial purchase.
Then there is Gertrude the 90 GW
And The 79 J20
And the 3 other GW's that have "graced" my garage
Now , do I include the loft full of spare ,extra, just in case parts that are lurking in my barn?
There are small countries that could survive on my jeep budget..........

Did I just use the word, "budget"?

Reading everyone else's post has lead me to believe that I should just toss the receipts. Nah, I may need an excuse for a drinking binge. I'm apparently not done, yet, so my answer on the poll will no doubt be null and void very soon.

In 3 years:

Purchasing Gr Wagoneer, 5000 euro
LPG installation, 2000 euro
Rebuilding engine, 4200 euro
Rebuilding Gearbox, 700 euro
Importing car parts 3000 euro

Sum: 14900 euro
In USD 20190

But... next year they are gonna charge road tax to classic cars. Instead of 0 euro I will have to pay Monthly 225 euro, which is USD 304 every Month. If I remove the LPG installation it drop down to 14 USD ( ?? ) But, LPG is 0.88 USD a litre and Petrol 2.24 USD a litre.

So, I you Guys complain regarding you Petrol price, think how I feel next year. The whole classic car business car is collapsing and my car dropped to 1/3 of his value, if anybody will buy it anyway.
