You figure that by now it would be less generic and just tell us what sensor that went out so we can fixit without a scan tool. I mean if we have cars that park themselves why not engines that diagnose/pinpoint themselves.

I have a good buddy that has a 2016 Challenger R/T Shaker Scat pack and in his center console he can access most of his live sensor data, 0-60, Quartermile, skidpad G's, and a ton of other parameters but he can't get to his trouble codes without a scanner. Makes NNNoooo sense. I have a programmer for my Mazdaspeed3 that allows me to see all my live sensor data in digital gauges and will show not only the trouble code itself but it's reading. So it'll say "DTC: 00 Pending, 01 Active, P0301, Cylinder 01 Misfire". I don't understand why that information cannot be sent into the displays on our newer cars these days.

Then how would the dealers make money?

I know they need to limit some of the access we have but when you pay upwards and beyond of 20k for a car or truck it should be included or an option like 4x4. Eventually cars will be throw aways like a computer cause who is gonna want to Restore an old Saturn or Lexus when they are so expensive to fix now and they get ragged out until they are scrap

20K for a car or truck???? That's just an economy model these days.
Just saw the new F-450 and Ram 3500 decked-out models are gonna be almost 100K!!
And probably still just come with a check engine light!

I just replaced the battery in my girlfriends Liberty Renegade and she was worried that the Check engine light was now off. Told her don't worry, it will be on shortly.
