About a week ago I dragged the "67 out of the hay shed and around to the shop. I felt really guilty about how little time I've spent working on it. I was worried about whether or not she would even start. I charged the battery for a long time on a slow charge and stuck the end of the fuel line in a can of fresh gas but no luck before the battery went dead. I put the charger back on it and tried again today and after pouring some gas in the carb she fired right up! I need to get the oil changed and get to work on the brakes now.
A good day with the '67

Yesterday I removed the fuel tank so I could clean it out and get it back to supplying fuel for the truck. It's an old steel tank with a few dents but thankfully no leaks. It has a drain plug welded into the bottom but it wouldn't turn so I left well-enough alone and quit trying to remove it. I did find an old repair made with some sort of epoxy patching material but its holding with no leaking so far! I rinsed it out several times with fresh gas and got quite a bit of sediment and a lot of rust flakes out. I'm using two in-line filters between the tank and the carb so I feel OK using it until I figure out what to do about a replacement. Right now its mounted on square tubing hanging between the frame rails behind the rear axle. I'm sure I'll eventually replace it with a new plastic tank but this will work for now.Last edited by jpcoutts; 08-08-2018, 01:10 PM.Jim C

Does your sending unit work Jim? If so keep it when you replace the tank. I've got three aftermarket sending units in my various Jeeps and they all read 1/4 tank low. The one in my 71 used to read right, then dropped to reading 1/4 low. The other two did it out of the box.Thomas Russell

Thanks for the heads-up. I'll have to be really careful removing it so I won't destroy it in the process. I wonder if the issue is a resistance issue in the circuit between the sender and the gauge? I replaced the sending unit in the J20 when I replaced the tank and it reads 1/4 too high. I think I can correct that by bending the float arm but I haven't gotten around to it yet!Jim C

No link with pics at the moment. I got frustrated with PB and haven't even tried in a while. What's it like working on a 327 over there?Jim C
