Replace chain while case is in?

I am replacing my chain hopefully this week.
Is it better to remove the case, or leave it in and work from under the truck?

I'd do it under the truck.

Very easy to do with the case installed.

Yes! Much easier in the truck. The service manual write up is good but The Mile Marker Conversion instructions are better. Obviously you stop after you remove the chain, then install the chain. If you jack up the back of the truck, you can comfortably sit on the ground with your head up and not drop stuff in your eyes. Also, I think 79 is the only year that had a giant seal around the two case halves. If there is no seal, you just RTV it shut.
