windshield wiper arms

1976 J-10

I replaced the wiper linkage during resto
cause the shop said my linkage was loose and worn,.....

the one that is currently on the truck
is the kind that is on my 1988 wagoner,....

on the driver side
the arm is comprised of 2 parts,

the main wiper arm
and a small flat bar
that hooks onto a nodule
held on by a slide on clip

the passenger side uses just a one piece arm

Question: if you wanted to, can you use a one piece wiper arm on driver side
that does not have the extra flat bar.....

and, do all wiper arms on FSJ's thru the years
have the same splines ?

now if I can find the darn arms I painted satin black
I can at least try to install those,......

i just took these off a 79 cherokee, the driver side had the two bar linkage while the passenger side was a one piece design. I do not know if either one was original and I did not try to interchange them. I did replace the 16" Trico Part #43-160 wipers within the last year. You're welcome to have one or both.

I replaced them with a set of arms having 18" wipers off a later model jeep, so I would be willing to bet that all fsj have the same base wiper spline.
The single piece passenger arm measures about 13.5" from base to pivot while the two piece driver is about 15.5" from base to pivot.
So even if the arms are physically interchangeable at the base spline, there might be a change to the wiping area where you want it on the windshield especially considering the tight curvature of the passenger side of the windshield causing a portion of that wiper to lose contact with the glass in its resting position.

thanx for the reply.

I do have the wiper arms
ready to install,....( just found them today)

and I appreciate the offer.

just was wondering about if it were possible to use
two plain arms on both sides, like on the pass side.

I am not mechanically gifted
I can't wrench
I can do a lot of the cosmetic details, etc.

but I wonder what purpose the extra flat bar serves
in the mechanical, or functional sense of things.

take care

It keeps the angle of the blade sorta constant with respect to the vehicle

found out what was going on,....

looked closer at my 88 wagoner arms
and an 85 j truck I have
the difference
the additional small flat bar has a curve in it
that makes it pass under the main arm

must have been a change in later years
I can only guess the location of the nodule/post
that the flat bar hooks to changed to accommodate the curve in flat bar.

thanx for the help from al members.
