    1979 Jeep Grand Wagoneer

    Hello,

I scored from my neighbor a 1979 Jeep Wagoneer limited, that had been parked for 10+ years. After 4 hours with a pressure washer she cleaned up nice. I got her running with minimal work to find out it has a broken rear differential. No problem. I am fixing this problem and I have purchased the Mile marker hub kit and 16% reduction kit for the quadra trac. My goal is to make it a clean dependable daily driver with a 3" rough country lift and 31.5" tires.

    thank you for the forum

Welcome! Matt is correct, the Grand before the Wagoneer wasn't used until '84. Your '79 will just be a Wagoneer or Wagoneer Limited depending on options.
Just a heads up, but I'd recommend any other lift than the Rough Country if you value your spine at all.

Welcome to the forum, Don! Post pics!

I pass through Atascadero often in route to/from my son's rugby matches and on my way to Alameda for work. Though, I wouldn't be in my Cherokee it would be cool to swing by and say hello/check out your rig.

lots of good people here and they/we love helping. Use the search function, thumb through the tech library, and post away!

Having a hard time posting pics. I am trying to use google pics. Do I have to post a minimum amount of times before I can post pics?

            Thanks!

Since you're adding a 3" lift for ground clearance I suspect you plan on some woods, dirt work where lower axle gearing is a plus. Why did you get the MM 16% OD version? You do realize the 16% doesn't just apply to high range, it also applies to the LO range mode.

The lift is to accommodate taller tires, sad reality for me is the fact this Jeep will most likely never go off road, that's why I bought the 16% MM OD and hubs. It will most certainly get used in the 20mile drive I make into my office everyday. I appreciate your input, this forum is wealth of information and knowledge

I used the cubeupload.com for pics, which seems easy.

Previous owner removed wood grain, I plan on putting it back on.

It looks like you might have a Cherokee WT or J truck from bumper, judging by how much it over hangs on the driver side. If you ever sell it for a narrow wagoneer/Cherokee NT bumper, let me know!

Did that tree limb not dent/demolish the roof? It is SHOCKING what you did with the pressure washer! looks great!

If you are just looking for tire clearance, I recommend a front shackle reversal. I did it on mine and got about 2" of clearance in the front, it rides a little nicer, and its a little cheaper than a lift. I even my kept stock height springs. This is the one I bought. You can install it in a weekend but you will need new: soft brake lines in the front; longer (you should replace your brake lines anyway), front drive shaft, and shocks.

Welcome to the forum! Nice score. I bought (about 10 years ago now) a 1977 J-10 in Atascadero... off Curbaril Road. It was bright yellow.

                              Cheers!
