Some of you may have been following the thread I started titled Early Wagonner ID. I started this thread in an effort to determine whether the "1963" Wagoneer that I purchased was truly a 63...or NOT.
Lots of you commented about the serial number decoding that was found in our tech area of this site. I have chosen to go even deeper than the serial numbers in hopes of determining just when my baby was born. Many of the tricks I have used are easily researched on the web but I will comment on a few ways that these numbers can be found and deciphered on your wag or Gladiator in a later post.
Here's my Kaiser Wagoneer 1414 C 1924x
- 230 OHC Engine casting 928790 Date Code F34 June 3 1964
Engine type code stamping AD60C (230 auto)
serial number 1807x and 85 (8.5 compression ratio)
- 230 OHC Head Date code J94 October 9th 1964
- Spicer transfer case Date code 4X10 (unknown but apperas to be 1964)
- Dana 44 rear ring gear Date Code 4 21 64 April 21st 1964
- Holley 2bbl Carb model 2300C Number 2934
Date code 452 second week of May 1964
- Windshield and tailgate window Glass - Date code IG June 1964
- drivers door and pass rear door glass - Date code XG7 Feb 7th, 1964
- ALL other glass pieces - GG7 April 7th, 1964
As you can see my wagoneer's latest piece, the head, was cast in early October allowing me to estimate the assembly in Nov/Dec 1964 or Jan/Feb of 1965. This Wagoneer was most likely first registered as a 1965 model.
If you have an early Jeep most of them are decoded this way til around 1970 or so...maybe longer. Contact me if you have any questions on decoding glass or any other of the items i've mentioned.
