360, stock PS pump with Air Pump too. What a PITA to get to! I tried using a couple of different wrenches but can't get a good angle on it. I couldn't tighten it before installing the pump. There must be a trick someone knows.
How do I tighten the Power Steering High Pressure line at the pump?

I couldnt' do it without unbolting the pump & pulling it quite a ways out & then i needed a thin open end wrench. You're definitely right, it's a royal PITA!!Mike

I just used a brake line wrench. 3/4 if I recall. Slid right on with no worries.
Might have a different name. Basically like a boxed end wrench with a notch cut in it to slide around the pipe/hose/line to get to the nut.

A brake line wrench sounds good but the way the bracket is the nut cannot be reached with one. Does your's have a bend in it? Did they make different types of brackets?82 Cherokee WT ? will e i just went out and checked both the 77 cherokee and the 78 j-20, my high pressure hose comes out in the middle of the pump and there is nothing there to interfer with tightening it. i wonder if somebody has changed the bracket.77 cherokee s,360, mild cam, headers,3.54s dana 44 turbo 400 p/txfer case, conti 33x12.50x15 9000lbs warn winch

78 j-20 original owner, 401+0.30,t-18, dana 20 4:10 gears,8274 warn winch ,

70 international travelall, the beast, big and ugly, made out of steel

ernie

long term solution might be a trip to the junk yard. I wonder if the change had something to do with the air pump.
Anyone got a picture or two of the 'easy' pre 81 style?82 Cherokee WT ? I don't know if snapping a pic will help you, b/c I have an sbc and I'm not sure if the bracket is the same. However, assuming it had a Jeep pump on it when I bought it, the pump is the same as a 74 GMC PU, which you can buy a fully rebuilt unit for less than a rebuilt pump w/o the reservoir.
I'm more than happy to shoot some pics if you want.Ed Mitchell

I made a assembly diagram - click on my waggoneer home page. Sounds similar to mine ('85). I wrote out instructions there from my experience. It did require moving the air pump out of the way. If you have a spare wrench and a torch you could make your own ofset line wrench.
