So long as it fits onboard properly, properly secured and doesn't exceed the GWR that's on the trailer build tag or exceed the hitch capacity of the tow rig I can't see an issue at the scales. I've never had an issue with a properly sized U-haul or tool rental shop trailer in WA can't see where a Penski trailer would be any different. So long as you're playing by all the rules you should be good.

Most states don't require U-Haul type trucks to go through scale stations. With Joe on it, as long as you don't exceed trailer weights should be good to go.

I played that game once... the money is better spent on a heavy duty tow-bar you can keep. I use the tow-bar a couple times a year.

I do long distance trips often though and trailer rentals cost a bunch.

My jeep is now too big for most rentals anyway.

I did once buy an old Big Tex tandem axle hauler and put new tires on it, used it, sold it and came up a hundred bucks or so.

I learned this while hauling my household goods around in the Service. You are not required to stop at weigh stations. Also, the rental companies post considerable weight capability much less for liability reasons. Like do not exceed 45MPH!

Be careful, don't take unnecessary risks, Can do!

Towed mine behind a penski truck last September from tx to nc... used a towbar though. Removed bumper welded bumper brackets to a steelbar. Then welded towbar brackets to that. Was easier for removing later. Towed like a champ... no issue. Couldn't even tell it was back there. Just removed bother drive shafts.

I towed my cherokee on the dual axle uhaul trailer behind a 26' pendle truck from Atlanta to Orlando going about 55 the whole way no problems at all.

I just started working for uhaul and the trailers are rated for either 7000 or 7500 GVW, the trailer weigh around 2000lbs.

yeah i switched my reservation from penske to uhaul saved 80 bucks and there trailers can actually take the jeep. the penske trailer can only take 4000 punds. also going over the 80 from nevada to california there is a giant sign that says all rental trucks requierd to wiegh in

I used one to tow my '83 J10, minus the front clip and motor/trans to Canada. It weeble/wobbled all over the place at 50 and often less so I took the back roads.

                      Too Bad!!

I used to make some good money moving myself on PCS's, never gave a thought to total weight. Even the biggest Penske's had posted GVW's way under the trucks rated capacity.

You sure they are not just looking for AG products. California is one regulated state!

Let us know what they check!

I remember that station from back in the 80's. They were even looking at household plants and ferns. But these days probably drugs, terrorist's etc.
They just asked and waived me through, I did have a car on a dolly too! I don't recall a scale but they had a shop and could tear you down to the chassis, if they wanted

I towed my '70 Suburban 365 miles on a U Haul trailer without problems. I may have -cough cough- accidentally listed it as a Blazer so the reservation would go through.
