tailgate window switch

My Switch On The Dash Quit Working. The Key In The Back Still Rolls It Up And Down.

Could It Be A Blown Fuse? Bad Switch? Wiring? I Am Almost As Apprehensive With Electrical As I Am With Carburetors, lol.

Its easy to take apart and put back together. Clean the contacts, a little dielecric grease, and it might work. Be careful to do it on a smooth clean surface, and pay attention to how it comes apart. There are tiny springs...it helps if ur work surface is white....good luck!

There are two power sources for the tailgate rear window. If the tailgate switch is not centered the dash switch will not work.
The plastic paddle of the tailgate switch maybe broken. You can use a rear passenger window switch to fix it.
Its not the best fix but will work.

If your driver power seat and mirrors still work the 30 amp fuse for the tailgate window is still good.

wow my post got deleted. Whys that???????????

The switch functions as a double pole double throw but it actually is a DTDT with connecticity between post in the center position. It is a unique switch. It's not a standard switch. I guess I shouldn't have posted my solution. It was part of the answer. I guess you have to find it yourself??

If you can't make it better why waste your time. No use repeating the orignal mistakes. I'm to old to push it that's why.

yeah

The best thing to do is uprade the system to a completely better system & do away with the unique switch.

these switches at best are all over 20 years old & the entire system uh has a vacuum to it.

So After A Quick Trip To The Junkyard For A Simple Side Marker Light, The KeySwitch For The Back Window Will Not Roll The Window Up.

it's Done This Before But It Would Work After Jiggling The Key. After About 20 Minutes ItStill Would.Do Nothing. Where Do I Start?

Hook a battery up to the motor wires by removing the inspection plate & pulling the wires off the switch put them on the battey one way it goes down the other it goes up.

Provided the wiring to the motor is still intact?
And the safety switch is closed? (you checked it like suggested above?)

...you can unplug the harness coming out of the tailgate under the truck and apply power to the tailgate motor wiring and raise/lower the window depending on polarity.

Done it several times in the boneyard to grab parts vs. the hard way.
