It's not perfect... But when there's nothing else... It ain't half-bad:

^ Left is the new ^ Middle is a GW connector ^ Right is the old GW plastic trim ^

I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is that I always allow each student one free pass in my classes. The bad news is that you have now used yours for this class. Doug

Is it really 45 cents for 12 ft? Or is it 45 cents per foot?

Umm.... I'm pretty sure it's 45 cents PER foot.

Thanks, Crist, for sharing your hard work!

          fitment

          Crist,

I ordered some of this. When I tried it on my parts GW, to see how it fit, it did not 'click' on. Rather, I could move it horizontally away from the GW, with no resistance. Did you use double sided tape or some other adhesive?

For anyone considering it, they can't ship longer than 8', so you have to have them cut each stick down. 8' gives you about 3-4 inches extra on the horizontal section and 4' is more than enough for the A pillar. Shipping about doubles the cost. I got three sticks, so when I screw up one, I'd have a back up.

I had samples pieces of many different profiles... This was the best fit knowing that not all drip-rails are created equal on our GW's. It is/was hard to tell if the thin 3M tape was going to be necessary... Sounds like it may be.

I used it and it didnt hold up to weather. It discolored within a year. If you want to see pics, let me know and I'll post a couple.

That stinks. Have you had better luck with anything else? Doesn't seem like there are any options out there other than finding some ss at the salvage yard. Thanks for the reply.

I had found a local guy this past spring who was willing to tool up to make a dozen sets from SS. They'd run about $150+/-. The quantity was based on using an entire sheet at one time. I didn't want to lay out the $, only to be stuck with 11 sets, so I proposed a pre-pay deal and asked who was interested. I had 7-8 guys offer to step up for a single set, but that wasn't enough, so I let it go. I'm still willing to pursue it if enough raise their hand, and more importantly, the $.

I just had an idea - I have a 90 Land Cruiser as well, which has SS molding as well. I just went to one of the primary sites for parts for it, to look at that molding. To begin with, the over the doors and rear side window is broken into two lengths, with a small clip overlapping the joint. Anyway, if a guy chose to, he could order what I guess would be 6 lengths of a straight section and use the clip to cover the joint in the middle. Going on the basis that three would cover the lengths on both sides - looks like that would run about $250. Or you could look for junked LC's. They are about as rare as junked GW's...

I'd definitely be in if your guy would make them for the GW and we could find enough folks to raise their hands (mine is up!). Might be worth putting it back out there to gauge interest?

Is there no u-channel stainless off the shelf in these (1/2 x 1/4) dimensions? Googling, I found some 1/2 x 1/2. This seems close in dimension to the mylar product: http://www.crlaurence.com/crlapps/sh...roductid=12135

                              you can buy flat
                              chrome moulding
                              with 3m adhesive backing
                              on a roll
                              seems to be good quality
i got a roll off of ebay
it is same size as drip rail
                              and you can use adhesive
to make sure the corner metal peice stays.
