I heard a new one today!-

I was in at Napa today looking for a seal kit for my power steering pump. Of course their computer didn't list power steering as an available option for a 327 truck in 68. I suggested we look at a wagoneer to see what was listed. The Guy working there wanted to search Chevy truck parts lists. I said "why Chevy? Its an AMC engine." He says "it WAS an AMC engine. I bet its got a delco distributor and a GM steering column. That's because Chevy bought the 327 off of AMC"

Looks like I need to find a new place to buy parts!

I guess the 4.0Ls in my MJs were Chevy too then since it had other GM parts? Our AMC rigs get no respect I tell ya.

OMG

I hope it was a new employee. Although I do know Napa is having to bow to the Kmart market I hate to see it happen. Cheaper parts & employees. Hopefully they were a rookie.

If you can't make it better why waste your time. No use repeating the orignal mistakes. I'm to old to push it that's why.

Quick!

Get a buddy with an AMC 360 to go in, requesting a fuel pump; see if they do a Chrysler lookup!

many NAPA stores are franchises. Some are excellently staffed while others are marginal.
Parts, tools and other inventory are centralized while the employee knowledge base is not. The good thing is, as long as you can pester them enough and know how to work the online catalog or the cross match paper ones - you can find your part.

Oh don't get me started...

But, x2 on the online catalog...doing your homework beforehand can sure reduce the frustration...

When i bought my cherokee the P.O. told me it was a ford 360. i ask him who swapped it in. He says "Nobody, everybody knows Ford made the 360's for Jeep." I asked him what makes you think that? He says because it has a motorcraft carb and Ford style ignition. He had a serious case of cranial anal inversion.

I have now become the "Resident Jeep Expert" at my store. When someone is confused about something Jeep, the guys refer customers to me.

That response is golden, I thought AMC bought the engines from GM?

I am an ASE certified parts guy used to work for O'reallys. For 3 years I was the only certified person in the 2 stores I worked at. I ran into crap like that all the time. I loved making bets with so called "mechanics" and making them eat their words and pay me my $ lol

I really liked messing with the new guys. Making them look up stuff for an 83 Corvette, water pumps for VWs etc....

LMAO that's funny. It always gets me.

Its one of the harder ones for the new guys to figure out they didn't make a Vette that year.
