    Rear Glass

    Greetings,
I just bought my FSJ, and will be using you guys extensively as I try to get it back into good enough shape that my girlfriend will be seen in it. Anyway, first things first:
Are Wag/G.Wag and Chero rear windows the same? How 'bout tailgates, for that matter?
    Thanks

They're the same, save for a few cosmetic differences, and whether you have an electric or manual setup.

What problems are you having with yours?

Generally speaking they're the same but somewhere in the 80's they went to a thinner glass so I think that also affected the channel the window sits it when it's up and prolly in the tailgate as well but not sure.

Problem is, it's not there! Having defrost would be nice, too. I ask because G.Wags are much more plentiful at the junkyard.

Jeese.. its like women against FSJ's out there. The FSJ's are like that abnoxious drunk buddy that never seems to go away and annoys the he** out of your companion. Do any of you feel like you are cheating on your partner with your FSJ? he he he he.. I hope not..

Langdon, I wouldn't advise that you get a tailgate glass from a salvage yard, especially if you want a defroster that works. New glass with defrost element can be had for less than $200 (I have a source in Columbus, OH, if you can come here to get it).

You'll then need a new channel for the bottom of the glass, which will cost you around $30 from a dealer -- again, don't test your luck getting one of these from a salvage vehicle, because they rust and fall apart.

They have a retainer clip at each regulator arm intended to hold the pin in the channel slot. Also, that pin should turn freely, or else one side of it will get worn flat.

The pins are machined in place. I removed both of mine and replaced them with my own mix of nuts, bolts, springs, and finishing washers. About two months now and it seems to be holding up fine.

                      Scotty,
Sure, I'd take it if i could pick it up in Wheeling sometime soon (say in the next 2 weeks?) Otherwise I'll have to break down and buy a replacement. Lemme know here or by direct email.
                      Thanks

The tailgate windows will interchange, as will the tailgates, except for one point: the latches changed some time between 1979 and 1982. You could fit the earlier latches to a later door by redrilling a few holes, but it's a kludge and it looks like it.
