Drummond Island Off Road

I went to Drummond Island this past weekend with a bunch of baby jeeps.

First obstacle. A rocky hill climb. No photos of me on it, yet. Someone took video.

My axle spun and killed the pinion angle. It destroyed my u-joint. Me replacing the u-joint on the trail after winching to the top of the hill.

Some of the u-bolts were stripped so we hand to weld the nuts on the u-bolts. It's good that I carry a flux welder on my rig.

Did some more trail riding.

Axle spun again. Didn't destroy the u-joint though. This time welded the u-bolts to the axle housing.

More trail riding.

Axle spun again. Once again the u-joint was ok. It was just me and my girlfriend now. I needed to use the winch with the transmission in park to rotate the axle to the proper position.

Welded the u-bolts to the axle housing again. This time I cleaned and wire brushed the metal before welding.

First time welding for me. Nasty looking welds. I got better by the 8th bead. This wasn't exactly the way that I wanted to learn how but it got me off the trail. Welds got me off the trails and the 350 miles home so they must have been good enough.

Of course, I don't have any photos of the obstacles that caused the axle to spin the 2nd and 3rd times.

Before anyone asks, no the welder wasn't plugged into a tree. I have a 5,000 watt power inverter in my jeep.

It looks like an anti-wrap bar is in my future. Any suggestions Blake?

Finally got around to posting the rest of the pics.

I got to do this a couple times this trip...

Then i did this on a hillclimb. Too much right foot. Had to bump hard to make the ledge, steep and loose climb to get to the ledge.

Not quite stuck yet.
