79 Cherokee Chief Cummins 6bt Diesel

I debated on starting a thread right now but I will.

I got a 79 chief a couple of wks ago and going to do a 6bt with a 5 speed. The engine is a 90 model that I've had for a while. It came with a 727 non OD tranny. I have found a 2wd 5 speed for a really good price with flywheel, clutch, slave cylinder. Everthing but the pedals. I will use a divorced tc and ton axles.

I would like to have it ready for east coast jeep gathering in June but don't think it's going to happen. I have one big delima in my way. I broke my leg new years eve and have had several surgeries. I get stuff done just not fast.

Man, you don't mess around when you brake something, do you?

Looking forward to seeing the build. Is your plan is to use the Cherokee frame?

I'm part way through the same project, quick word of advice , talk to
Whoever is building your rear driveshaft. My transfer case is not divorced and I'm at 34 inches, make sure you have enough room for a driveline.there is a member from southern Alberta doing the same swap as you, I'm using the dodge frame. Good luck.
        Keep us posted.

Yes I will be using the stock frame. It should be good for around 600 ft-lbs of torque with a little stiffening. The stock cummins is not that much and don't plan on going up there.

Got quite a bit done today for a cripple guy.

Droped the tranny and transfer case out the bottom. Tranny and tc are for sale if anyone is interested. Make offer.

Also took the 727 off the.cummins for a guy to come get tomarrow.

              Took the engine out.

Started to take the getrag apart. I am going to try to find a 4wd tail housing and swap the tail shaft out to use a married 205. Did some measuring and it's going to be tight with the drive shaft angle and the fuel tank.

I know you guys like pics so I'll post as many as possible.

I'll be watching this build thread carefully. Awesome swap! I want to do this to my J-20.

I could have gone without seeing your broken leg picture...

New years eve accident. Had surgery that morning. Had a second surgery the end of January to get it reset.

It sucks. Starting physical therapy. It's gonna take a while.
