Build up pics of a 84 Waggie Down Under

Hi guys - been around for a while now after getting trapped into the FSJ vortex. All started out as something to tow a Ski Boat when I upgraded and my vehicle at the time was not up to the bigger boat, that was Oct 2006. Was not long and I had fallen for this old waggie with so much character and charm.

What the old waggie looked like before the changes started to accelerate. Waggie here has new body mounts 1" taller the standard.

Fitting BJ's 4" lift with Rancho 9000XL, circa Sep 2009.

Nov 2009 - out and about with the family, waggie has 4" lift, 31's and the guards have been hacked at by me.

    More to come.

Mate's big CJ parked next to the waggie, makes it look tiny still 4" lift and 31's. This is xmas 2009 - to early 2010.

Next up was getting the guards to where I wanted them and also looking after a few patches of cancer in the body. Let a pro do the work as the price was right. Oh yeah 35's had been fitted by this stage, so total guard chop was near on 3", no rub so far.

Next up was getting a front bar made up to have some recovery points and a winch mounting place at a later date. The side chrome pieces are fully supported inside aim was to keep that classic look and still be practical.

    More to come.

A few piccies of it ready for paint Late Sep 2010.

And after Paint, I ended up getting really lucky with the paint and unbelievably the paint stores in Oz found no problems calling up the paint codes I pulled off the net. (The Aussie build plate does not list paint codes.) This is a few pics when I first got it home - end of Oct 10.

Now as it stands at the moment - fresh grill (from wreckers off a Limited chief, I like the pigs nose), bumpers back on and I am slowly tackling the rubbers, hope to get pinstripes done this weekend to cover up a few
tape blemishes where the blue and silver meet. 12 Nov 10 photos.

Anyone help with getting the chrome pinchweld for around the rear window? Only place I can find something like it is in the UK.

      Cheers Peter.

Yeah well I have to be patient and bide my time otherwise things get out of control. Luckily I have a few good friends and connections which save me a few dollars here and there. Unfortunately I can not do as much on it as I would like as I have two young boys under 3. The Aussie dollar being at parity with the $US certainly helps let me assure you.

          Cheers.

Great looking shed and the Canyonero is looking good with your two tone colours. Well done its coming along, the side strip between the two colours is a good idea .

With the chrome trim I decided to keep things simple after many frustrating hours searching the net for the parts. Auto Barn sell chrome stick on chrome wheel arch trim in various mm widths, I used this for the rain gutter guard and the rear window surround, looks good and possibly a better material than the plastic trim used originally.

Your seats are similar to mine, been trying to define what they are as no one in the us with an fsj seems to have our 1983 - 1984 Ltd seats, hence getting covers is very very difficult.

Why would they use different seats is beyond me. My best guess now is our seats are from an Australian supplier similar to our centre console(if you have one) which came out of a ford xa (I think).

                  Cheers Tony

One of the members on this board indicates that early 1990 Ford Explorer seats fit pretty well.

As an aside, there was an article in one of the driver magazines that had a Wagoneer with 5-speed manual transmission, 2:72 gears and an inline 6-cylinder 258 cid engine that did 25 mpg average on a trip in Australia.

Might have been one of the British rags or Car and Driver, MotorTrend, or Road and Track.

Anyhow, it was once on the web and I am searching for it, won't help me with my '83 Cerokee with 4:11's and 4-inch lift, but would be interesting for some of the folks trying to offset gas prices.

Thanks and the Lights are KC highlighters, they are hand me downs from my brother-in-law, I have scored a couple of sets off of him - he loves his lights.

                        2. If it were me, I would remove the other chrome trim around the windows, I think the rear windows look right and the chrome trim is wrong, but that's just me.

Yeah,it is probably not to everyones liking and to put it simply it is too late now to take the chrome off as it would then need to be painted. No, I am happy with it, I think it looks a little better then with all the chrome in place adds a little bit of bling without being too much.

A question for the masses - what length Ox Locker cable (for rear diff) is a good choice if I choose to mount the selector next to the T-bar on the centre console. I am actually away from home at present and I stepping it out from memory I reckon the 96" cable is the good option. Thoughts?

                          Cheers
