    Tire Sizes...

through experience, what is the largest tire i can throw on the stock rims and not rub TOO bad inside the fenders. and the same question with about 2 inches of fender trimming, and also with 4.

    any help would be appriciative

with 2.5" I still had to trim to fit 31 10.50 15s, of course, if you don't wheel, you won't rub, and a wide track will take a 33(I think)

hmm i plan on putting it through some 10 inch mud on occasion, or maybe some headlight high water basins, but nothing with severe flex like rock climbing. (not till later anyways )

Granted our weak area is the rear wheel well opening but even if you go with a skinny 33x9.5 tire you still need a bit of lift, even with trimming.
The diameter is just too big for most situations.
I lost the link for what fits and hits a while back, someone will post it i'm sure.

I fit 33"x12.5" on factory aluminum 7" rims with 3.5" of backspacing, using nothing more than a 2" block in back and some trimming. But the inner sidewalls were VERY close to the springs (about 1/8" clearance) and they would rub the inner fenderwells under full articulation. OTOH, 33"x9.5" tires with the same lift/trim never rubbed, even under extreme articulation. 31"x10.5" would probably be fine with nothing more than a little trimming.

On my J-10 with no lift I ran 33X12.5s with no rubbing even at maximum articulation.

I'd be careful with anything above a 31 with that D27 front axle!!!!

well after seeing the exact trimming you used, which was the same i was planning on (save the far rearward quarter) i realize that th 31 x 9.5 will easily fit since you were running 33 x 9.5. thanks for the info and time to go get some fresh sawzall blades..
