    Shackles

So I need a little advice here. My 73 Waggy has 33s on it along with 3? blocks in the rear and aside from pinion angle shims in the front just the shackles below. Do they look stock to you guys?

I am pulling the blocks out and getting rid of the 33s.

Those shackles are stock. Your front springs most likely are lift springs.

Likely the shims in the front adjust the caster angle, not the pinion. Lift springs will reduce the caster angle (usually), and you typically end up pointing the pinion down more to maintain caster angle and make the Jeep driveable. Not much else you can do other than cut the knuckles loose from the tubes, rotate and weld.

        Thanks Tim, makes sense.

Johnny - interestingly the springs are almost parallel with the ground.

          Stew4706,
a favor to ask, anyway you could take a pic of that shackle from the front and post it please? I just got two new front ones arrive for my 79 and I'm not sure which way they go. There is definitely a Front and Back of the shakle ... but I don't know which way it goes into place. The 'homemaders' that are on there now don't resemble a stock shackle at all, so they are no use to guide me.

Thanks a lot if you can do it.

Are your springs on top of or below the axle?

So looking at he pictures, there's a welded side of the eye and a smooth bend side of the eye ... which of these faces to the rear of the vehicle? These will be going on the FRONT springs.

                      Thanks a lot.

Once the new shackles are installed properly, if I am standing in front of my jeep looking at the spring end .... will I be looking at the weld or not?

I just want to understand what you mean by "folded"?

                        Thanks.

Your second picture will face the front. You will be looking at the weld. This leaves the back side "open" to go over the spring when it flexes out.

yes,you will see the weld. hold the shackle up to the spring and envision it installed and it'll make sense to you how it goes.
