Np228/229 vacuum motor delete

Has anyone ever went to a full mechanical cable setup for the 228/229. I want to remove the vacuum and use the existing flag shifter for 2/4h/n/4l. I'm not concerned about the markings being wrong. I just don't want to rely on the vacuum. Can this be done by modifying the existing cable or brackets? It looks like the vacuum motor and the current cable both move the same lever on the xfer case. Can I make it so the cable has a longer stroke and does its current job and the vacuum motors job

86 wag 360/727/228.

They are on 2 different parts on the tcase. It would require a pita shifter like the Dana 20 has, which most convert to twin stick because they wear out.

A PTO cable can operate the 2wd to 4wd portion of the job pretty reliably (that's what my Quadratrac had on it for low/high range)

Only one that does everything on one stick is the NP208 which doesn't have a fulltime (or all wheel drive) position. Just 2wd, 4 hi locked and 4 lo. (well, there is neutral, but that's pretty useless)

Neutral is so you can just step out and walk away. The 219 uses one stick.

This would only be a PITA if you don't fab stuff.
