Installing a new BJ's Gas Tank

I purchased the Gas Tank from "The Bargain Beater".
The Fuel Pump was for an Edelbrock MPFI System.
Will I need to add a pressure regulator or should I swap the pump for a pump with less pressure?

What fuel system are you running now?

Your carb requires 5-7 psi while the FI pump probably runs at close to 60 psi. I wouldn't trust the regulator to keep it that low. IMO, running a regulate low pressure pump would be the better choice.

Fuel system is an Affordable Fuel Injection with the "standard" TBI pump that is mounted ahead of the gas tank -

I need to get the specs for the pump on the new tank, if it is at 60 PSI I need to figure out a different option.

Can you post a picture of the pump that is in the tank currently? It may simply be a regular GM style in-tank pump with a higher PSI spec. If that's the case, you can install a different (lower PSI spec'd pump) and be good to go.

Okay - I looked at the pump (a very small thing) and this is the picture and the info I could find on it.

The following information could be read off the pump:

GSS242 and 7609.2 it is a Walbro pump - ebay has one that looks identical - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Walbro-GSS24...661#vi-content

Looks like it is a 45psi model but the pressure information is hard to come by.

Any suggestions for a suitable replacement TBI pump?

            Thanks - Bob

Ok, that looks like a regular GM style pump.

The one that comes up for my Chevy truck (TBI) is BesTest PN BE16007.

Bring your old one into the store and see if the size is similar.

Pumps are rated in liters per hour, not psi.
The regulator sets the pressure not the pump.

That pump would probably work fine, no reason the TBI regulator can't drop it down to the correct pressure.

So if it is 190 liters per hour the TBI regulator can likely drop it down. I was told this pump was placed in this tank for use with an Edelbrock TPI system. I just don't want to have to drop the tank once I install it.

Only thing you would have to worry about is the return line.
It must be free flowing and larger than the stock 1/4" line.
If there is ANY restriction the pressure will rise above what the regulator is set to.
A stock TBI/TPI pump would do the same thing.

A stock TBI pump can easily go to 30psi, but the volume isn't there to support the HP of an upgraded engine.
They're borderline just enough for stock.

The Walbro pump while overkill (supports ~400HP+), is a much better quality pump than any stock TBI/TPI pump.

What are people using for replacement and larger fuel lines to replace the stock metal lines?

Metal or rubber or braided steel?

Just curious what alternatives I have to run the larger lines -- I seem to get symptoms of "vapor lock" at anything below a half tank today while still using the stock steel lines.

On my '88 I put a new 3/8" steel line, yanked the 1/4" line, and used the existing 5/16" line for the return.
