Got My Winchline in Today...
Its 100' of 3/8" line with a 19,600 lb/test breaking strength..
I got it from a guy on Pirate that beats everyone elses price. PLUS, he misquoted me, but still honored it. This line (with safety thimble) was only $232 shipped.. Malodin and myself took advantage of his error..
If any of you guys are interested, I can probably still get him to honor it, just let me know...

yep, and the best part is if it breaks, it won't cut you in half. you can then tie a knot in it and keep on winchin!

And yeah, its that strong. It is rated on a straight line pull, not through a block.
Plus, like Al said, it does not store energy, so it wont cut you or your rig in half if it breaks...
Another cool thing about it is, it only weighs someting like 3.6 punds per 100'.... Heck of a way to offset some of my extra front bumper weight...
**Edit** Corrected to the actual line weight..

Yeah, and I guess you can dump the heavier roller fairleads too (the one for my 12,000Lb Ramsey PTO is 75Lbs.!!!).
I guess I should ask, can you run these through a block?

Yeah, I forgot about the roller fairlead.. Mine for the 10K was heavy too. I dont think it was 75lbs, but still heavy none the less..
And yes, you can run them through a block. I think that you need one that says its for synthetic line, but I am not sure. The guy on pirate can get anything that is on winchline.com and they have a few blocks listed...

You can still use rollers, but they need to be NEW, and NOT run with wire rope. Still a bad idea to run them though, too easy to pinch the rope in the corners.
The solid block types work well, and you can use aluminum or poly(something) for even lighter weight.
As for line strength, yes the breaking strength is higher, but when you figure in the safety factor, the working load limit brings the wire rope very close in strength.
I personally like the extra 'give' in the synthetic line for absorbing shock loading. It really helps take the load off the winch and other attaching points.
On the other hand, if you plan on using the winch line close to the limits, the wire ropes will last longer and break less. And wire rope can take a lot of abuse.
And I definitely like the weight savings.
My next Jeep winch might get the synthetic rope, but my tow truck stays with wire rope

i read up alot on the use of each, i am running it on a much lighter rig(geo tracker) and though its possible i may run it on the fsj when its done i doubt it....the fsj will be primarily the wifes rig when i am done and more of a recovery vehicle than offroader(basically she can follow us around in it and if one of us little rigs gets stuck its a simple pull out with the fsj) for that i will probably stay with the winchline of whatever winch i put on the fsj....
i like the safety thimble its an awsome design.

almost brand new (id say about 4 months old), about 15 uses but still like new condition. and it was amsteel blue. i was always careful to use the abraision guard.
i lost about 30 feet off the end. i had 120' so @ 90' it'll be better anyways.
this was w/ a m12000.

Wow, thats a lot of winch..
Well, I guess its a good thing that you had the rope since the 3/8" cable is rated at less than 15K and the rope is rated at closer to 20K (or more). So they say...
Are you unimpressed with the rope, or do you think that you would have busted either?

i wouldn’t say that im unimpressed, it works great when it within its operating capabilities. i tend to use products to their limit and then when they break have to get bigger and stronger.
i would recommend the rope still, (im getting the same kind, just bigger). and it is a ton safer (and easier to handle) than wire rope.
and fwiw, i think that the m12000 isn’t enough winch for me (much of that probably has to due to the 120' of winch rope). i stall it a lot. im gonna put this one in the rear and get a m16500ti for the front.
