If you can't make it better why waste your time. No use repeating the orignal mistakes. I'm to old to push it that's why.

Has anyone followed up on this or kept track of it?? Is the restoration in progress or is it still sitting in a barn?

Holy crud! I remember my grandpa telling stories about this guy who drove a factory extended cab J truck. (I thought he must have been mistaken). We need an update! Wish I still had grandpa's old truck and grandma's old waggy.

That is soo COOL!!! and factory WOW! . On a side note, I always that the folks that build the club cab J trucks should incorporate the roll down rear Wag/Cherokee window into the truck cab, now that would be some engineering.

Awesome chunk of history this truck, when done, you need to take it up to the Bantam Jeep fest. and blow folks minds http://www.bantamjeepfestival.com/

The OP joined IFSJA on 02 January 2011 and last visited on 04 January 2011. The thread got kicked around for three months and then died. It's been six and a half years since the owner stopped visiting.

Bryan (The PIG Smith) is still active here, and apparently got in touch with him via Facebook:
I have a 1977 jeep j10 extended cab (one and only one built) protype built by my late granpa at the toledo jeep plant in 1977. Well the restore has finally begun, we are hoping to have this beautiful truck done by August so it can be in the Toledo Jeep fest . We have started a page on Facebook documenting the rebuild with

Maybe Bryan has some insight on the status of the truck and its owner.

High quality junk here: intro thread and slow build thread

Did you know? Willys is just Willis spelled differently, but pronounced the same. Neither Willy nor his apostrophe are involved.

So I mentioned this truck in my build thread and DarkMonohue asked for whatever pictures that I have. Just got around to seeing that post. Low and behold there's already a thread on it! Don't really like bumping ~10 year old threads but didn't feel like what I had necessitated a new one.

What few I took are below. They don't show too much but there's a facebook page for the build that I found at some point and it has more. Really hope they get it fully restored since it's an incredible piece of history. Wish there was a proper Jeep museum it could go in.
