Cutting a hole in ones hood is not an action which should be undertaken lightly...I pulled some stuff from the junkyard, and mocked it up, but none of it looked right. I'm glad my buddy gave me the boat catalog.

I think that heat killed my last carb, the accel. pump diaphragm was kinda deformed and looked almost melted. I'm very happy w/ my 2 electric fan system, but I want to increase its effectiveness and give the heat a place to go @ short stoplights when I don't want the fans to turn on.. I got these awesom 4x12x7/8 SS vents from west marine.

model number 386559 SFVEN#13585

mock up...

approximately where the vents will come thru on the other side, I've got the 3/8 water heater insulation upgrade on the underside of my hood.

I propped up the hood and put a tarp across the engine bay... one down.

pretty happy w/ the fit...

view from underneath... please lets keep the comments tasteful regarding my getto fab brake reservoir lid tiedown.

all done...

I used stainless #8x1/2 sheet metal screw (which I will probably change to rivets) and a little black rtv

guess I need to think about painting the beast pretty soon.
cheers,
Robert
