Ideas for dual 4 speeds

I have an 87 GW that I just broke the np208 on. Seeing as how it is broken and I hate having the auto in it, I've been wondering how hard it would be to put two 4 speeds in it with a stronger transfer case like a np205. I have a t18 out of a 76 cherokee and was wanting to put something like a ford t18 or np435 behind it so I can still keep my drivers drop axle. I've seen all the options for doublers and such, I just want to be alittle different and have more gearing options as well. Am I crazy or is this in the realm of posssibilty?

I'm thinking this over and seeing things that could be challenging. The Drive shaft or coupling from the first trans goes into the input of the second some way or another. This puts the t-case pretty far back, not really a big deal. I have seen old ww2 era 5 tons that had divorced t cases and t case shift linkage that was 3 or so feet long. The second trans, depending on the method of coupling to the first would be pretty far back. You'd end up with a short rear drive shaft and a long front one.

You would probably lose some power, running it through 2 trans and a t case, also a more complicated set up that factors another unit in the mix to fail. For the effort you could get your reduction in the axle gears or a doubler box like you mentioned.

And I think I mis-spoke, saying it was a pair of three speeds.... my bad. I should go fix that.
