Drug the old beast out today.

I am officially started on Project Cheap Chief . Drug (literally) the old beast out off the back forty today. I will get pics tomorrow, she is in baaaad shape, I got lots o work ahead. If it was a wag I'd just find another, but cherokees are hard to find. Plus, building a good wheeler from scratch will be a good challenge, and I dont want most of the stuff thats shot anyway.

Pics tomorrow if I am not to tired when I get back.

Sweet, This build is going to be filled with good old fashioned ingenuity, I'm saying that because of your budget. I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

OH YEA, ingenuity, lots of hunting down free parts/donar vehicles, sweat, blood, and I am sure a good amount of pain/cursing on my part.

Budget does not include any parts I can trade/sell my stuff that I am replacing anyway, so it may well be a little more than $1000. The budget I have in my sig is just what I told my wife I WILL use, (Baby pleeeease??) and is set aside for it.

          first pics, Ugly.

Oh boy, have I got myself into a BIG project this time. Here is my starting point.

You can see the 20 yr old me's hack job on the fenders. Cut the rust then decided to make room for bigger tires, but never got a new motor in it. Like I said ....Lot of work to do.

Convincing a frozen brake drum "you will come off one way or another."
Another inventive use for my High Lift jack, brake drum puller
          http://s998.photobucket.com/albums/a...totest0007.jpg.
I argued with that thing for an hour, then came up with the above idea. Worked pretty good just use a prybar to keep it from getting too crooked and binding.

Well thats all for tonight, more to come as I get farther along.

Got the front clip off tonight, and a good chunk of my thumb. Got to love it when a bolt breaks and sends your hand into the sharpest part in the vicinity. Sorry I didnt get pics, camera beeped and shut down when I turned it on, dead batteries.

Next up,(when it stops raining, AGAIN) is getting the motor out, and drop the steering box so I can clean and paint the front portion of the frame. I am hoping I can find the springs I am after before then, and get them in while I am there.

Depending on how my timing all works out, after that, I may take the body off and do up the new(to me) gas tank, stainless hard lines for the brakes and gas, and (I hope) 64" (63", depending how you measure) springs out back, as well as clean and paint the rest of the frame.

Off to bed, so I can go to work tomorrow. I really need to start playing the lotto, then I could "work" on fun stuff all the time.

Got the headers, carb, and front portion of the wiring harness off yesterday. Picked up a rebuild kit for the carb today, and some shrink tube for the repairs to the wiring harness.

Not a lot of progress, but things I can work on when its raining, and I have time to spend on the jeep.

With a 1/2 hour drive each way, by the time I get there after work it dont leave much time to do a lot. I can't wait to have it running so I can bring it home. It will be a lot easier to go right outside and work on it any time I want.

I guess I should start a build thread before long.
