I might try to install the tfi this weekend assuming i get my motor mounts and exhaust done first.i have a couple of questions i need to find out before i start. ok i am doing the mild performance upgrade with the tfi coil but not the springs. On the coil socket there are 3 wires 1 red 2 green i only have 2 wires on the stock coil where do the wires go?also is reseting the timing after the upgrade a must?

i did the tfi upgrade. i used the red and one of the green. i believe i used the outer green on the plug. the third green could be used for some kind of resistor or capacitor. but, i didn't use it nor did i have instructions to use it. anyway, mine turned out fine and is one of the best upgrades i have done to my j10.
i'm sure someone will chime in on the use of the third green wire.

i didn't reset the timing. it just sounded so good, i thought "why fix it if it isn't broke" sort of thing. but, you could always check it yourself. also, don't forget to gap your old or new plugs to .045.

I did not use the second green wire either.
I checked my timing afterwards and it was about the same as before.

I believe the other green wire is for a tach hook up. I didn’t use mine either.

I just cut my old bracket w/ a hacksaw and made it work w/ the TFI coil, took me all of 10 minutes to cut it up.

That was before I got my grinder, so the hacksaw was the tool of choice. I still haven't got around to trimming my rears yet, still have that nasty gash there.
