Drivetrain swapin

Vehicle: 78' Cherokee Chief; Intentions: Tow rig, daily driver. I am goning to do a full body off rebuild and am looking at replacing the driveline. Right now it has 360,t-18,d-20. I am looking at replacing the motor with a 460. I can get a performance rebuilt(470/496) one for $3,800. My question is what manual tranny to put in. I am a huge fan of the t-18, but want an overdrive. Could put in a gearvenders overdrive but they are $$. What are your experiences with nv4500's, and will they adapt to a 460. I dont object to using a late model ZF, but would like to use a np205 transfer case(adaptability?). I a looking for all of the above including a 14 bolt rear/dana 60 front. Oh yeah, I will have a lot of parts for sale soon. I know I could call novak or advance adapters (I will later) they are trying to sell from the getgo. Any suggestions, Jason

Apparently, you have too much money to belong here. Seriously, if you can afford it, 4500 is the way to go, with an Atlas T case. With that drivetrain you'll pull apart the frame before you break anyting.

If you are looking for over drive why not consider the Stak 3 speed transfer case which has the over drive built into it?

Why not go with the GM setup that's in the 3/4 ton trucks? 8.0 engine and a Allison 5 speed auto tranny.

Don't know if the ZF you are refering to is this one or not, but what about the 5 speed and transfer out of a mid to late 90's F@rd diesel. Since it was behind the 6.2 it should be stout enough for you. Would need a driver drop anyway if you use a F@rd 205. Fuel tank relocation and driveline length might get to be an issue as well.
