727 Auto Tranny Front Seal
How is this done? I have searched the tech library and it is not clear. Can you replace the front seal without removing the oil pump?
I have the engine out and I have seen several postings suggesting one should replace the front seal. The TSM says to remove the oil pump with two slide hammers, then you have to deal with adjusting bands, o-rings and gaskets. Sounds like I might as well rebuild the tranny. Am I reading too much into this?
Can I just pull off the torque converter and remove/replace the seal?

I don't know about 727s but I know with ford c-4s all you do pull the tranny pop out the tork converter pull the old seal out then put in the new one. The fun part is getting something to fit down over the shaft that will alllow you to drive the seal in straight.

geez Don, idunno. I have always heard" do the seal while it's out" too, but have never had the pleasure. Good luck.

I have never had to pull the pump out to change a front seal. Pop it out pop it in

Problem is I do have a small leak. Although not as bad as the pic above. I can see the seal. Can you remove/replace without removing the oil pump?
