It's the shizznizzle dawg! We'll for what I wanna do it is anyway. When I get my new J truck, I want it to ride about 3-5 inches over stock height, but I want the axles to be able to drop around 10 inches, so I can run dual long travel MX6s and be able to jump the sumavabech safely for less that $800! After I build the full cage and tie it into the frame as I learned how to do in last months topic-o'-da'-month, it should reenforce the frame enough that the truck should be able to handle it. I'll make some kinda funky anti-sway bar or anti wrap linkages to keep the front axle from being all screwy and sideways. Next month's topic of the month should be "axle trussing", then I'll be set!

So what kinds of suspension set ups do ya'll wanna run or plan to run?

Nevermind...The more I drink...er....think about it, the dumber 3/4 eliptical sounds for a truck to jump with. And here's why;

1) The pinion angles would rotate about 6 degrees I'm guessing, just due to the suspension travel, with a fixed fulcrum, which means it would eat u-joints like twinkies.
2) The front end would wander left to right. Any time it moved left, the steering would point the tires to the right, and vise versa, which at speed would make the truck so squirrely that I'd probably chrash and die.
3) Just the drop in the suspension would cause bump steer during a jump which means that I'd never know which way my tires are pointing when you hit the ground, so I'd probably crash and die.
4) I could fix #2 and #3 by adding a drag link the same length as the steering draglink and same drop angle as the steering draglink from the frame to the axle, but during a jump, this would pull the axle to the left, meaning it wouldn't land on center, and when the suspension compressed it would pull the truck to the left too, or it'd push the axle back to thr right, creating a slightly less, but still fully likely chance that I'd crash and die.

Oh, well. I'll think of something else really cheap and dumb to do.

i don't think a lot of droop is what you want if you want to jump your fsj... you want more uptravel and compression...

Along with proper weight distribution and firm effective and well damped travel, and definately more compression than droop. A prerunner bumper would be good too, in case you endo to hopefully prevent you from flipping....at least too hard.
