More Dana questions

I have a 70 Wag that someone put 6 lug 44's under. I thought they were Blazer since they were 6 lug but I have read that in 74 AMC went to a 6 lug design.How do I ID these to start a rebuild? I'll look again in daylight but from what I remember they looked like 44's with 10 bolt diff covers and had 3.07 gears.The front has the open nuckle and about a 5" hub protruding from the front wheel.Front disc. Not a unbolt style like the 27's. Rear looks like your typical Dana casting. I'll check the rear brake drum size too. All in all they look pretty stout for my back country ramblings. I figured I would leave the 3.07's in for a while to see what tires and ratio I will want to change to.What brand of gears are good and what kind of diff for a daily driver with some occasional thrashing and good snow control? Powertrax? I want to do it right the first time

look at the dif covers head on.
on the diff casting, the webbing at the lower right hand corner beneath the axle tube, shood be the model number. ie 44 or 60 or 27 or whatever...

how u kno they are 307s??

i have 1977 diffs under my 66

are the knuckles present? you cn easily id a gm front axle by the funky steering arm on the driver side knuckle...

if they are both from a blazer,ther rear is prolly a 12 bolt andnot a 44. i dont recall gm ever using a 44 in the rear.only a 60 from bout 66 to 72.other than that,gm used corporate rear axles. take a good look at the fornt,too. it could be a corp 10 bolt.the cover will be sounder than a 44. i have read that chevy started using corp front axles in 77,but GMC kept a front 44 until 79.not a hard and fast rule(specially since people swap things like axles ) it has been pretty consistant in most trucks ive looked under
