Chirp, squeak or bird under my 79 Wagoneer hood?
On my way to work (70 mile drive - one way) I began to hear a pitched, drawn out squeak of sorts from under my hood. Once I got off the highway and into town I noticed that I had a chirping sound while maintaining speed at about 30MPH. The chirping is pretty loud and is kind of pulsating.
Thinking it might be a vacuum leak, I goosed it and the sound went away but quickly returned. As I rolled up to a stoplight, it became obvious that the chirping was related to wheel speed because, as I slowed down, so did the pulsating of the sound. It continued to slow down until I came to a complete stop.
When the light turned green, I went on my way and after getting up to speed (about 30) and holding the throttle at that speed the sound returned. I let off the gas a little and the pitch dropped but not the pulsating.
The strange thing is that the chirping seems to pulsate faster than the wheel hub speed. Could this be a wheel bearing?
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

I would guess it's a belt, check the tension on them to see if any are loose and see if that helps

Its the speedo cable. Mine does it also. I think the speedo head will want a shot as well, if I can get up in there...
To test it, you can disconnect it and see if the noise goes away.

X2. Also look at the brackets and make sure nothing is crooked. I broke both alt and PS pump belts last weekend right after my Wag started making a very similar sound. Turned out to be a broken alt bracket that allowed the alt to twist a bit, causing the pulley to cut the belt, which must have caught the other one and broken it, as well.
