When did the interior design change? 87 or 88
I have an 88 GW and have been looking for some time for a parts car. A guy recently advertised an 87 for a really good deal. It's a long ways to where the car is located and I don't want to make the trip before knowing for sure if it's what I want.
I know that the interior of an 86 (dash, steering wheel, etc) is totally different from an 88. How about the 87? Does it have the same style as the 86 or the 88?

My 86 came with the same interior as the 87-91.
The switch came between 85 and 86 model years.

86 was the changeover but 88 was when the overhead console was added along with keyless entry.

Sounds right. I have a '87 parts truck. Used a bunch of stuff on my '89 (and a '90 I used to have.) Rest of interior was all the same with the minor exception of some AMC symbols here and there (like maybe on the seat belt buckles, IIRC.)
Other differences I ran into offhand were wheels, A/C compressor, starter, and plug style on the ignition module.

1986 Was the changeover year. '86 models started with round gauges and finished the year with square gauges, steering wheel also changed IIRC. They also started the year with the seamless woodgrain and pignose grille and finished the year with the final edition grille and vertical woodgrain borders at the door jambs as well as other carious combinations.
Both are 1986 models
