WOW! My truck sounds AWEsome now!

So, my Camper/Utility J10 is STOUT... don't know the specs on the cam, but with the Holley 500 2 Bbl, it is still the fastest J truck I have owned. 727/219.

When I got it the PO had a true dual exhaust, all the way to the tailpipes, but no crossover and LOUD glass packs. Since there was no crossover and the pipes go out on either side of the vehicle, the Ex note was very staccato and brash.... nyaaaaaaaahhhh, nyaahhhhhhhhhh. Lots of resonance on the highway.

I went to a great Ex shop here in Ozark (B & R Auto, who can do custom exhaust up to 4") and got an estimate on a 2 in, 2 out muffler that would tone it down a bit and give a good crossover for my 2.25 system.

Bill recommended a "VX" (or was it "FX") muffler and I cannot beLIEVE the difference. I have a welder and could have done it myself, but I am trying to finish a bunch of house projects as well as selling stuff and I know Bill does great work. Since my dual ex runs right up the center of the truck, it was easy for him to splice it in without too much hassle.

It really sounds like a show car now. Still A little loud still for me, but a smooth growl with NO resonance even at 70 MPH. tried cruising 50, 60, 65, 70 and it was SWEET. I can rev it even in this colder weather with no reversion (popping due to cold air getting sucked back into hot head, a big issue before) and I am VERY satisfied. My son was amazed at the difference and my daughter even liked it. I will try to get the brand name... maybe do one of those utoob sound videos too.

My only problem is now my truck, which gets the worst mileage of any FSJ I have ever had (under 10 MPG highway) is doing even worse around town... because I cannot keep my foot out of it!

I have a set of Edelbrock Short Headers, Performer Intake/carb, Accel Big Ford cap/rotor and MSD HIGH energy TFI coil to install in the next few weeks (will have to get some wires). I have a feeling I will be fixing some Vacuum leaks and getting better MPG when it's all said and done... if I can keep my foot out of it!

I have the same problem with my GW with a 401. Edelbrock headers and magnaflow stainless all the way back. Sounds mean, hard to go easy on the pedal at stops, I agree!
