Myself I see exactly 3, the VIN and 2 badges. I will note the grill is 69 or older but everything else I see looks like 1980 to me.

VIN tag is in the wrong location.
I don't see anything that would lead me to believe it's a 1971.

        LMAO...go to their site
Still has duraspark box mounted on fender.
Can see where the missing "real" VIN tag was on firewall.

Can also see remnants of original VIN door jamb sticker adhesive...above 71 tag.
By what I see definitely '79 or '80 since cab has a brow.

It's got a 727 trans which makes me think it's an '80, although I'm not really up on anything made after 1973.

I see stuff like this and it makes me wonder if someone had a '71 that was junk but had a good title and stole a later one and swapped the vin tag and badges. I know some people have been known to do stuff like that so they don't have to deal with emissions but even that is far from legal. I have also seen people on Craigslist selling just a Gladiator VIN tag with a good title which is totally shady.

NOPE, not even close to legal. Dealer is most likely unaware.

Exactly, but even worse, I'm thinking, what about someone who buys it and then tries to bring it into their state where they do a full VIN check/inspection before they allow it? I'm pretty sure they would likely get hammered if they tried to bring it into California.

The sale comes with build receipts, service manuals, and maintenance records.
That oughtta be some interesting reading!

Somebody put a lot of time and effort, or at least money, into that rig...and they couldn't find a more fitting VIN plate? Rhino grille just looks so out of place on that truck.

So, who's gonna contact the dealer and, err-um, inform them of the truth....say just link back to this thread?

Does anybody have a picture of a 1980 VIN plate in the proper location? Would also like to see one of the dash.

The plate would have been on the firewall(upper right corner).
In the pics you can see the paint difference from the missing plate.
Google has many images of a VIN plate.

                        Here is one...

I believe Jeep only started using the dash vin tag starting in 1981.

In this thread, http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/showthread.php?t=153744 you can see the proper location of the 1971 tag and a proper door jamb vin sticker.

                          I'll add these...

Circled area upper right, obvious that a metal VIN plate was removed.

This picture of 71 VIN tag in incorrect location, riveted on Jeep used screws in 1971...above can clearly see adhesive remnants from a missing label.

Someone is working on that right now.

Someone could lose a lot of money by buying this truck and I don't want to see that so authorities have been advised.

The outfit selling it is a consignment dealer.
So the owner is either trying pull shady stuff or they are clueless and got scammed?
