Transmission, Transfer Case, and engine rebuild...New England Area...Argghh!

I posted this same messege to the FSJ list...definitley looking for some advice!

Ok, sorry to put this HUGE topic into on post, but I'm ready to move
on this and could sure use some help. I'm ready to have my
transmission rebuilt (would also like to get the t-case done at the
    same time).

Where in New England (I'm at Hanscom AFB, near Boston) should I go
for that? Ever heard of Bonded Transmission? AAMCO has a three
year warranty. Some place up in tax free New Hampshire? I just
have no idea who to trust with this.

The same deal for the motor. I've gotten so turned around with Long
Blocks and turnkeys and blah blah blah. I think that a long block
or a rebuild of my motor is called for. Phoenixengine.com? They
are out in AZ. I'm really grasping at straws here. I know I want
someone to either rebuild mine or send me a longblock and me send
them my core. I just don't know who to trust here, either.

I've got an '83 that I would like to fix up. It's served me well
for 3 years now. It's time to do it right. I want to move to a 4-
barrel carb and intake. Maybe a small lift. Blah blah blah.

Your help and knowledge, as always, are greatly appreciated. I've
got more questions, but I'll stop for now...I'm sure this is enough!

Is there an auto hobby shop on base? If so ask some of workers about repairs and other items. They get thier parts from some place and usually the people that work there know something about the good and the bad places around that do business. At least the ones around here can steer people in the right direction.

as far as long blocks, jasper and atk are both names with goods reputations. but i would hold out for a good builder to handle the engine. good luck with the tranny, i would stay away from aamco. if you do go with them i would buy one of their rebuilt units. for the sole fact that the warranty on that would be easier to hold up than the warranty on some work done on your existing one.

Thanks for the information! Yeah, I'm visiting motor pool and the hobby shop tomorrow to pick some brains. Fingers crossed.

Kreb, I'll check atk...hadn't heard of them. Yeah, seems like with all this cam walk and oil hole stuff and who knows what, a guy I can go show stuff to would be nice. I just want it to last. (Don't we all)

        Thanks again,

Talk to some of the older civilian guys in motor pool around end of day or at noon sit and talk remember some of them will have worked on AMC motors in matadors and jeep trucks and a few wags depends on what the base had in the past. They will talk and help you out with ideas.
