CA Smog law re-write, the best CA political decision since we voted for Reagan in 84
'84 GW with Nissan SD33T, early Chev NV4500, 300, narrowed Ford reverse 44, narrowed Ford 60, SOA/reversed shackle in fornt, lowered mount/flipped shackle in rear.
I was denied insurance at Haggerty this time around because:
-When it comes to utility vehicles from the late-70's, we would need to see that the classic is in very good condition and is insured (and worth on the collector market) at a value no less then $5,000.
-usage including hauling/towing/off-roading, as well as driving to work over 20 times a year
Mine is not worth $5k. Hopefully next year it will be. I also want to do some offroading and may do some hauling/towing. So for now, I am insured through Ameriprise/Costco as a regular vehicle.
I wonder how a smog tech will know to run a full smog check or the abbreviated one... A week and a half until the vote!
Well that's part of issue. AFAIK the shops/techs will pawn you off to a referee.
Everything in this "new" bill is already pretty much in place.
Has been for a while...
The new car smog exemption increase is the "selling point" of this bill.
It's the "collector car" thing that'll halt the process. As you saw with insurance denial. Then the DMV nonsense with horrid restrictions. Sprinkle in a smog
referee approval...no thanks.
Other ways to get things done...wink...without all above nonsense.
Just happened across this thread again. Re-read the text. Looks like it passed but it was amended where all it does is make it so news cars do not have to be smogged for 8 years. Annoying.

74 wag, 349Kmiles on original ticker/trany, except for the rust. Will it make it to the next get together without a rebuilt? Status: needs a new body.
85 Gwag, 229 Kmiles. $250 FSJ test lab since 02, that refuses to give up but still leaks.
