    EV FSJs

Well, my dream may be becoming a reality: https://www.hagerty.com/media/news/t...ld/2022-09-16/

Thing is, that price-tag is insane, and all I want is the EV--leave the other modern junk out.

I think you can do it yourself for less money!
If you really want it then go looking for a totalled Tesla with the right useable parts and use that for your build.

There is a shop in the UK that uses Tesla electric motors for converting classic cars to ev.
So why not possible for a DIY built!?

I'll take only a 20% fee on the savings that you can gain.... PM me.... just kidding i have no financial interests in this venture... albeit, if I am in that city, I will probably take a peek!

Seems like 30 to 35k is the basic retrofit, plus shipping charges across the pond...

      Otherwise a little digging

Absolutely you can do it yourself for a lot less money. 20-25k for the good ones--that's with a 300 mile range (theoretically), and assuming you don't have to blow a ton of money on new adapters and LEDs and everything else (i.e. you did/would have done all of that LED stuff anyway so you can't count it against the cost of the conversion). No shipping in that price either...

But who knows, maybe those guys in Alabama want to hire a crazy teenage intern

There is a fella from CA over on the CJ Forum doing this with a CJ7.

Sure the same kit could be adapted into an FSJ, and likely would just shorten battery life a bit, so stay closer to home.

Rather be driving, than waiting to be modified

Ford offers an E-Crate that supposedly is the Mach-E motor/gear box but I don't think it comes with a controller or battery. GM was supposed to have an E-Crate that was going to be motor/controller/battery but I think it was like $30k.

Honestly, I don't a FSJ is all that much heavier than an electric. My Cherk was 4400 pounds with half a tank of gas in it. A Mach-E is 4300-4900 pounds. I would think if you pulled the engine and trans and bolted the motor to the xfer case, and added some lithium batteries, I would think the Jeep would be lighter?

There is this company that sells drop in DIY electric
Electric Crate Motors by ElectricGT including the 413 GTE Motor - electric vehicles and components.

Pricey but for the most part it's bolt in and go.

You might also check out Superfast Matt on Youtube. He did a bunch of videos about convering a '50s jag to a tesla drive train.

Well, seeing as how it's my daily driver, and I don't see getting another car any time soon, I would have to have at least the range I do now; 300 miles or so. And I want to have similar power.

Electric GT has the right idea, but they charge too much for the conversions, and try to maintain the stock V8 look in the car. I personally couldn't care less whether or not it LOOKS like the stock engine, as long as it works. Also they want to retain a clutch between the motors and the transmission, which isn't necessary.

If you do it right, it'll come out to the same weight as it was before the swap. I even saw a thing where somebody took a DeLorean and made it electric--it came out 1000 lbs lighter, with a BETTER range, and suddenly with less weight jt actually handled halfway decent. I suspect that these Jeeps have too much aerodynamic drag and too much weight for it to be worth it to put in little enough batteries to keep the weight down.

The Ford Eluminator system is pretty good but again, it's super expensive, and it's not just the motor--it's the entire gearbox and everything, so you pretty much have to do a full IRS/IFS swap on it. And I think the GM version fell through, if it didn't I know there was something I didn't like about it, don't remember what though.
