    dry starts and lifter noise

its been about 1000 miles since my cam swap and it had a really light lifter tick since i put it in which from what i have read is pretty normal. recently it has seemed to get a little louder. not by much and its still not even noticeable in the car when driving (unless the windows are down and im driving next to something for the sound to bounce off of) also recently its been dry starting if it sits for more than 6 or so hours. in the morning itll take about 3 or so seconds before the valve noise goes away. thoughts?

Same exact thing with mine. Don't know if it's the oil or the lifter. Again we have the same motor.

Mine did that and I stole the pre/post oiler off my turbodiesel. Expensive solution, but that engine will live longer.

              Mine too!

Stock 360 running Mobil 1, 10-40, and mobil 1 filter. Its always done it, worse in cold, but just momentarily after start, until pressure climbs a bit. Is that Back-flow? I can change filters next change. I was going to Mobil 1 5-30 next Oil change, Probably in the fall.

Running that thick oil isn't going to help your issue any. Even where you live its still gotta get flowing. Try a different filter and a thinner oil like a 10w30.

They changed the filter sometime around 1987 from the Napa #1258 to the 1085. The 1258 sucks, the 1085 is good, and no, they are not interchangable.

If you use the early style filter, use a Baldwin B9, B39, Purolator L30005, or ACDelco PF24. Baldwins are hard to find, Purolators come from Pep Boys, and the AC from O'Reilly's. You usually have to ask at the counter for those filters.

I have found that the current lifters available all are loud, IIRC correctly the oil inlet hole in them is higher than stock AMC - the current ones are a universal.
I have never had a engine with replacement lifters not have lifter rattle.

I thought someone had lifters made correctly (maybe bull tear?) but they are pricey.
